MOGADISHU, – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has congratulated Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali and Abdirashid Yusuf Jibril on their election as President and Vice President of the newly formed Northeastern Federal State of Somalia.
In a statement on Saturday, President Hassan praised the maturity shown by lawmakers, parliamentary leaders, and candidates during the election process in Lasanod. He said the new leadership faces a “heavy responsibility” and urged them to unify the region’s people while promoting peace, development, and state-building.
“The Federal Government of Somalia stands ready to support the Northeastern State in advancing federalism,” Hassan added.
The President also called on citizens and the new administration to strengthen unity and cooperation to overcome challenges and achieve sustainable progress.
The election of Aw-Ali and Jibril marks a key step in Somalia’s federalization process, as the country works to stabilize governance across its member states.
