Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia has formally welcomed the “historic and principled” declaration by French President Emmanuel Macron to recognize the State of Palestine, calling it a bold affirmation of Palestinian rights, international justice, and global peace.
In an official press statement issued on Friday, July 25, 2025, Somali authorities hailed France’s intention as a “timely and courageous contribution” to the growing international movement for the recognition of Palestinian statehood.
“France’s position reinforces the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and sovereign independence,” the Somali government stated, adding that the move aligns with international law and relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.
Somalia, a longstanding supporter of the Palestinian cause, emphasized that the announcement by France aligns with the core principles of justice and diplomacy, and reflects a shared global vision for the two-state solution—where Israel and Palestine co-exist peacefully and securely.
“This is a significant stride toward realizing the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people,” the statement continued, urging the international community to build on France’s example.
France’s move follows increasing pressure on Western governments to take definitive steps toward ending the decades-long conflict. France now joins a growing list of nations from Europe, Latin America, Africa, and Asia calling for formal recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state.
Somalia commended what it described as a “moral imperative” that supports regional stability and upholds international norms.
“The moment to act decisively in favor of peace is now. The world must stand on the right side of history,”Somalia’sForeign Ministry added.
While symbolic in nature, France’s gesture is being interpreted globally as a potential turning point in diplomatic momentum. Somalia expressed hope that this act will revive stalled peace talks, curb illegal settlements, and strengthen the Palestinian claim for full membership at the United Nations.
For Somalia, the French announcement is not just a diplomatic headline—it’s a moral signal. In the face of occupation, humanitarian crises, and political stalemates, Somalia reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, and its commitment to diplomatic efforts that prioritize justice, peace, and dignity for all.
