After years long under the Al-Shabaab militants rule, Burka Delaal area under Middle Shabelle region held its first annual cultural games after 17 years .

The region, which is currently under the rule of the federal government forces and local clan militias maawisley observed the ceremony for two days .

Al-Shabaab, during their tenure, strongly condemned such gatherings.

Local residents voiced how cultural games have been a vital pillar in the community since time immemorial .

‘we learnt the cultural games from our fore fathers , this games have been in exexisted even before my father was born and I’m currently seventy years.”

Another local leader echoed his colleague’s sentiments .

“ we thank god for enabling us to hold the cultural . The games generally benefit the community as a whole . Dispersion among community members breeds animosity and this what the games cure ”

The federal government tightened security in the region as the ceremony was under way.
