The Independent Constitutional Review Commission and the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on the Constitution continued for the third consecutive day their joint sessions on presenting proposed amendments to Chapters 5 through 9 of the Provisional Constitution.
Wednesday’s session focused specifically on Chapter Six, which outlines the structure, powers, and responsibilities of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, and Chapter Seven, which details the constitutional mandate, authority, and functions of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The committees thoroughly reviewed key articles requiring clarification, harmonization, or amendment in line with the ongoing national constitutional reform process. Discussions centered on strengthening institutional checks and balances, ensuring legislative efficiency, and defining executive powers with greater precision to reduce ambiguity within the governance framework.
Members of both committees emphasized the importance of transparency and public awareness throughout the constitutional review process, noting that the amendments aim to finalize a stable, inclusive, and fully operational constitutional system for the country.
The joint sessions are expected to continue in the coming days as both committees proceed with presenting and debating the remaining chapters to complete the current phase of the review.
