The Somali National Army (SNA) has executed a series of military offensives in Galmudug and Hirshabelle states, resulting in the elimination of 1,650 militants and the injury of over 550 others.
The government, in collaboration with local forces and international partners, orchestrated a highly coordinated operation that decimated the militants’ strongholds, leaving them with no choice but to surrender to the authorities.
The Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism made the momentous announcement on Wednesday, commending the SNA and its allies for their unwavering dedication and remarkable achievements in the fight against terrorism.
Senior al-Shabab commanders were among those who met their demise, suffered injuries, or opted to lay down their arms during the intensive operations conducted over the past two months.
“The Somali army, with the support of international partners, made military achievements against terrorists in areas under Galmudug and Hirshabelle states. Senior al-Shabab commanders were among those killed, injured, or surrendered during the operations in the past two months,” stated the ministry in a press release issued from the heart of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
The relentless efforts of the government troops, bolstered by the unwavering support of their international partners, have been instrumental in the intensified offensives against the al-Shabab.
Since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared an “all-out war” on the group last year, the Somali National Army has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to eradicating the menace of al-Shabab from the nation’s soil.
The operations in Galmudug and Hirshabelle states highlight the government’s determination to restore peace, stability, and security across Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s resolute stance in declaring an “all-out war” on al-Shabab has galvanized the nation and paved the way for these significant advancements in the fight against alshabaab.
The elimination of 1,650 militants and the surrender of hundreds of others send a powerful message: al-Shabab’s grip on Somalia is weakening, and the forces of peace and justice are prevailing.
