Somalia’s Federal Supreme Court has annulled the Galmudug election results. The court made the ruling on Monday. Judges found that the July 30 vote broke the constitution and the electoral law. Chief Justice Bashe Yusuf Ahmed announced the decision in Mogadishu. He also ordered a new election.

Chief Justice Bashe Yusuf Ahmed announced the ruling after judges heard the case. They reviewed the evidence closely. Baashe said the vote broke Somalia’s constitution.
“The elections were not administered in line with the constitution and the electoral law,” Baashe said, according to the court’s statement.
Judges said the errors could not be fixed. They said the errors damaged the vote’s integrity. That damage reached the final results, the court said.
Why the Galmudug Election Results Were Voided
The July 30 election was a big moment for Galmudug. It was the state’s first direct vote. Citizens picked local council members and state lawmakers.
Voting took place in 11 districts. Those districts sit in the Mudug and Galgaduud regions.
However, tension built for months before the vote. Federal officials and Galmudug’s government disagreed on how to run the process. Critics also questioned the election body’s independence.
As a result, judges found the flaws too serious. They chose to void the whole result instead of a partial fix.

The court gave clear orders. It told Somalia’s electoral commission, the NIEBC, to hold a new vote. It said the commission must act soon.
The new vote must follow the constitution and the electoral law. It must also follow related rules. Until then, the Galmudug election results remain void.
Meanwhile, current Galmudug officials will stay in their posts. This avoids a gap in local government. New, lawfully elected officials will replace them later.
