President Deni meets Ethiopia’s New Consul, reinforces commitment to regional Cooperation
Puntland State President Said Abdullahi Deni on Sunday received the newly appointed Consul of Ethiopia to Puntland, Major General Tagesse Lambamo Dimbore, at the Presidential Palace in Garowe.
The meeting marked the consul’s first official engagement since assuming office.
In a statement released by the Puntland Presidency, the discussions centered on strengthening diplomatic relations, expanding trade and economic cooperation, and enhancing cross-border security collaboration between Puntland and Ethiopia.
President Deni welcomed the envoy and commended Ethiopia’s continued engagement with Puntland, emphasizing the importance of fostering stable and constructive relations between the two neighboring territories.
He underscored that mutual cooperation is vital in addressing shared challenges such as border security, illicit trade, and the movement of goods and people.
Major General Dimbore reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to advancing bilateral relations, describing Puntland as a key partner in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development across the Horn of Africa.
He expressed his government’s readiness to work closely with Puntland authorities to deepen collaboration and facilitate regional integration through improved trade links and security coordination.
The visit comes at a time of increased diplomatic engagement across Somalia’s federal member states, with Puntland positioning itself as an active player in regional diplomacy and economic cooperation.
Both sides concluded the meeting by reaffirming their mutual commitment to ongoing dialogue and practical cooperation, signalling a renewed phase in Puntland–Ethiopia relations based on partnership, respect, and shared regional interests.
