UAE reaffirms support for Somalia’s sovereignty at Arab League meeting
The United Arab Emirates’ Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Khalifa Shaheen Almarar, participated in an extraordinary session of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, convened virtually on Saturday at Somalia’s request.
The meeting, held under the framework of the Arab League, focused on the recent developments in relations between Somalia and Ethiopia following the controversial Memorandum of Understanding signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland earlier this year.
During the session, Minister Almarar reiterated the UAE’s firm stance in support of Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He emphasized his country’s commitment to standing alongside the Federal Government of Somalia and supporting its legitimate efforts to safeguard national interests.
The Emirati diplomat further noted that Arab nations remain united in backing Somalia’s stability and development, stressing the importance of coordinated Arab action in addressing regional challenges that affect the Horn of Africa.
He also highlighted the urgent need to promote peace, dialogue, and diplomatic engagement to reduce tensions and strengthen regional stability.
The meeting concluded with a resolution reaffirming full support for Somalia’s sovereignty and unity while calling for continued Arab solidarity in advancing peace and security across the region.
