Somali ground forces Deputy Commander urges offensive against Al-Shabaab in Hiiraan
Somali Army Deputy Commander Urges Offensive Against Al-Shabaab in Hiiraan
Abdullahi Cirro, the Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces of the Somali National Army, on Wednesday led a delegation of senior military officers to Teedaan in central Somalia, where they were warmly received by frontline troops engaged in ongoing security operations.
The delegation was welcomed by the Commander of the 27th Division, Ali Cageey, alongside other officers overseeing military activities in the region. The visit comes at a critical time as government forces intensify efforts to reclaim areas from the militant group Al-Shabaab, which has maintained a presence in parts of Hiiraan.
Addressing troops gathered in Teedaan, General Cirro commended their resilience and sacrifices on the frontlines, urging them to accelerate operations aimed at liberating remaining areas under militant control. He emphasized that sustained pressure on insurgents is key to restoring lasting peace and stability in the region.
The deputy commander also called on soldiers to uphold discipline, unity, and determination, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. He noted that while fasting may present physical challenges, it also offers an opportunity to strengthen resolve and commitment to national duty.
“Double your efforts to secure the safety of civilians and ensure stability across Hiiraan,” Cirro told the troops, underscoring the importance of protecting local communities and maintaining operational momentum.
Military officials on the ground expressed appreciation for the high-level visit, describing it as a morale boost for soldiers engaged in difficult operations. They reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the fight against Al-Shabaab and pledged to intensify efforts to improve security across the region.
The visit highlights ongoing coordination within the Somali National Army as it seeks to expand territorial control and weaken insurgent networks. In recent months, operations in Hiiraan and other central regions have been stepped up as part of a broader national strategy to eliminate extremist threats and stabilize liberated areas.
Despite progress, challenges remain, including difficult terrain and sporadic attacks by militants. However, officials maintain that continued military pressure, combined with community support and stabilization efforts, will be crucial in achieving long-term peace in Somalia.
