Somali National Army conducts planned security operation in Hiiraan region.
The Somali National Army carried out a pre-planned security operation in the Hiiraan Region as part of the government’s ongoing campaign to combat extremist groups and stabilize areas previously cleared of Al-Shabaab.
Military officials said the operation targeted identified positions where armed militants were believed to be present. The objectives included neutralizing security threats, securing key supply and transportation routes, and ensuring the safety of civilians.
The Federal Government of Somalia stated that the operation is part of broader, coordinated efforts across central Somalia aimed at consolidating recent security gains and preventing Al-Shabaab from re-establishing control over strategic corridors.
Officials emphasized that such operations will continue until full security and freedom of movement are ensured throughout the region. However, the government did not disclose casualty figures resulting from the operation.
The operation comes amid reports that Al-Shabaab has recently regained control of several areas in eastern Hiiraan, underscoring ongoing security challenges in the region.
