Danab Commandos secure key areas in Maxaas District after planned operation.
Elite commandos from the Somali National Army (SNA), specifically the Danab Special Forces’ 163rd Battalion alongside units from the 27th Division, carried out a planned military operation in areas under Maxaas District in the Hiiraan Region, successfully dislodging militants from Al-Shabaab, according to official military sources.
The operation targeted several strategic locations, including Osman Indhoole Junction, Ganarubad, Inabaale, Cadiimo Hassan Raqay, and Qoryo-qaad. Danab forces reportedly secured full control of these areas following coordinated maneuvers aimed at removing militant presence and restoring stability.
Military officials confirmed that troops have established security in the liberated areas and have begun search and clearance operations to prevent any remaining fighters from regrouping or carrying out retaliatory attacks. The ongoing sweeps are intended to ensure lasting security and prevent militants from reestablishing footholds in the region.
The operation forms part of broader efforts by the Somali National Army to intensify pressure on Al-Shabaab strongholds across central Somalia, particularly in Hiiraan, where sustained campaigns have sought to reclaim territory and strengthen government control.
Commanders emphasized that operations will continue until all remaining threats are neutralized and full stability is restored in the affected communities.
