Somali Danab Commandos Kill Over 20 Al-Shabaab Militants in Special Operation in Bay Region
Danab commandos and international partners coordinate counterterrorism operations in southern Somalia.
Somalia’s elite Danab Special Forces, operating in coordination with international partners, carried out a highly planned special operation late last night in Buula Fuleey area of Bay region, a location described by security officials as one of Al-Shabaab’s most important strongholds.
According to official sources, the operation targeted facilities used by senior Al-Shabaab leaders, resulting in the killing of more than 20 militants, including commanders and fighters who were present at the site during the raid.
During the operation, Somali forces also destroyed an Al-Shabaab–run radio station operating in the area, which had been used to spread extremist propaganda and misinformation.
The operation concluded successfully, and authorities said additional details will be shared with the public in due course, God willing.
This latest raid comes amid intensified security operations against the group. Just two days earlier, senior Al-Shabaab leaders were targeted in Middle Juba, while militants were repelled and defeated on Saturday during an attempted attack on Wargaadhi area in Middle Shabelle region.
Somali security forces say the continued operations demonstrate growing pressure on the group’s leadership and operational networks across the country.
