President Hassan Sheikh announces amnesty offer to Al-Shabaab members during Ramadan address.

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has announced an amnesty appeal to members of Al-Shabaab, urging them to defect from the group and take advantage of the government’s rehabilitation program.

The President made the remarks while delivering a Ramadan message to the Somali people and Muslims worldwide on the occasion of the holy month.

Addressing young fighters within the militant group, President Hassan Sheikh called on them to abandon violence and return to society.

“Young people in Al-Shabaab, come out. Your country and your people need you. The government has offered you amnesty and rehabilitation,” the President said.

He also encouraged Somalis to strengthen solidarity and mutual support during Ramadan, particularly in assisting communities affected by ongoing drought conditions.

In addition, the President extended special greetings to the Somali National Armed Forces, commending their sacrifice and dedication in defending the country, maintaining security, and stabilizing liberated areas.

President Hassan Sheikh reaffirmed that while the government will continue military operations against Al-Shabaab, it is equally prioritizing the reintegration of misled youth so they can contribute to national reconstruction and development.

He concluded by urging citizens to safeguard the public interest, reinforce unity and cohesion, and work collectively toward peace and progress throughout the blessed month of Ramadan.
