Young man Killed in overnight shooting in Dayniile district, Mogadishu
A young man identified as Abdirisaq Abukar Mohamed was killed last night in Mogadishu’s Dayniile district, allegedly by a Somali National Army soldier, as the victim’s family calls for justice and accountability before burial.
New details have emerged regarding the killing of a young man last night in the Dayniile district of Mogadishu. The victim has been identified as Abdirisaq Abukar Mohamed, a young man who earned his living as a bajaj (three-wheeler) driver.
The incident occurred in the Barwaaqo neighborhood of Dayniile. According to local sources, the killing was carried out by a soldier from the Somali National Army, reportedly among troops trained in Eritrea. Witnesses said the soldier opened fire deliberately before fleeing the scene.
Family members of the victim told the media that Abdirisaq’s body remains at Firinjir Hospital, and they have refused to proceed with burial until justice is served and the perpetrator is brought before the law.
Speaking to journalists, Yuusuf Absuge, a relative of the deceased, said the suspect is known and that another soldier who was accompanying the alleged shooter has already been arrested.
“The soldier who killed my brother Abdirisaq fled, but he is known. Another soldier who was with him has been detained,” he said.
The killing comes at a time when incidents involving soldiers killing civilians had appeared to be decreasing in Mogadishu in recent months, raising renewed public concern over accountability and civilian protection.
