Somalia seeks stronger INTERPOL support, training, and modern security equipment.
Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, attended the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco, where global security, cross-border crime, scam centers, and modern policing systems were discussed.

The high-level meeting focuses on a wide range of security priorities including global security cooperation, combating cross-border crime, addressing the growing threat of scam centers, expanding the operational capacity of international police forces, improving information-sharing between member states, and adopting modern INTERPOL procedures to enhance global safety.
During his address to the assembly, Minister Fartaag highlighted the importance of strengthening Somalia’s role within INTERPOL, noting that enhanced engagement will enable the country to better confront complex security threats. He emphasized Somalia’s need for increased technical assistance, advanced training, and modern security equipment to support ongoing reforms within the nation’s security institutions. According to the minister, collaboration with INTERPOL is essential for improving intelligence sharing, tracking international criminals, and securing Somalia’s borders.
On the sidelines of the assembly, Minister Fartaag, accompanied by Somalia’s INTERPOL Chief, General Mohamed Ali Dhoorre, held a bilateral meeting with China’s Vice Minister of Public Security, Xu Datong. The two sides discussed deepening security cooperation between Somalia and China, including training programs, technical support, equipment donations, and stronger collaboration between their security agencies.
The meeting also focused on joint efforts to combat terrorism, organized crime, and cyber-related threats. Both officials underscored the importance of enhancing operational coordination and maintaining regular communication to address shared security challenges.
Minister Fartaag reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to working closely with international partners and strengthening multilateral cooperation to ensure national and regional stability. His participation in the INTERPOL General Assembly marks another step in Somalia’s efforts to reinforce its global security ties and modernize its national law enforcement systems.
