Mayor of Mogadishu meets Turkish ambassador to strengthen strategic cooperation and urban development
The Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), on Wednesday held a special meeting with the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Alper Aktaş. The meeting focused on strengthening the historic relationship and strategic partnership between Somalia and Turkey, particularly in supporting the development and connectivity of Mogadishu’s local government with cities in Turkey.
During the discussions, both officials highlighted the role Turkey could play in supporting the construction and development of critical infrastructure in the Somali capital. Priorities included completing key arterial roads, implementing a modern drainage system, enhancing city beautification, training municipal staff, and improving social services such as education and healthcare.
Ambassador Alper Aktaş pledged Turkey’s continued and active support for the Banadir administration and Mogadishu municipality. He emphasized that Turkey remains one of Somalia’s closest allies, consistently standing alongside the country as it undertakes recovery and reconstruction efforts.
Mayor Muungaab expressed gratitude for Turkey’s ongoing support, noting that such collaboration is essential for sustainable urban development and for improving the quality of services available to Mogadishu residents.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor for General Affairs of Banadir Region, Mr. Abdimajid Dahir Adan, and directors from various departments of the Banadir administration.
