Banadir Region Governor pledges an end to damaged roads in Mogadishu by 2026

The Governor of the Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu officially inaugurated the newly reconstructed Nasiib Bridge Road in Shibis District, reaffirming the city administration’s commitment to improving urban infrastructure and road networks across the capital.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mayor General Yusuf Hussein Jimale (Madale) stated that the Banadir Regional Administration is determined to ensure that Mogadishu will no longer have damaged or unpaved roads by the remaining months of 2026. He emphasized that road reconstruction, maintenance, and cleanliness are among the core responsibilities of the local government, which it is fully prepared to uphold.

The Mayor called on residents to play their part in protecting public infrastructure, noting that sustainable development requires cooperation between the authorities and the community. He also revealed that agreements have been reached with construction companies, holding them accountable for repairing any defects that may arise after road completion.

According to Mayor Madale, community collaboration will be essential in addressing any challenges that could affect road quality or public services. He stressed that public ownership and vigilance are key to safeguarding development gains.

“By the year 2026, Mogadishu will not witness broken asphalt roads or dusty streets. Our vision is a developed, secure capital city with strong economic infrastructure and complete public services, God willing,” the Mayor said.

He further announced that the Banadir Regional Administration plans to commence the construction of major roads, including 30th Street, Warshadaha Road, and the paving of Jamhuuriya Road in Karaan District, as part of a broader urban development strategy.

The reopening of the Nasiib Bridge Road marks another step in Mogadishu’s ongoing transformation, as city authorities intensify efforts to modernize infrastructure, improve mobility, and enhance the overall living conditions for residents.
