Lower Shabelle Governor Visits AUSSOM XLIII Task Force, Praises Strong Security Cooperation
The newly appointed Governor of Lower Shabelle Region, Abubakar Abdalla Bashir, together with the Mayor of Marka District, Adanli Ahmed Mohamed, on Thursday paid an official visit to the AUSSOM XLIII Task Force operational base in Ceeljaale Camp.
The delegation was warmly received by the Task Force Commander, Colonel Robert Koch, who commended the strong security cooperation between district administrations, local communities, the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), and the Somali National Army (SNA). He noted that effective coordination and collaboration had played a crucial role in preventing major security incidents in Marka District.
Colonel Koch emphasized the importance of sustained coordination and intelligence-sharing with local communities, describing it as a key pillar in countering militant threats. He reaffirmed AUSSOM’s commitment, alongside the Somali National Army and partner security agencies, to degrading the operational capabilities of Al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle region.
The commander highlighted that joint efforts between international forces, Somali security institutions, and civilians remain essential to maintaining stability and ensuring long-term security in the region.
For his part, Marka District Mayor Adanli Ahmed Mohamed pledged full support for AUSSOM forces, stressing the district administration’s readiness to cooperate closely with peacekeeping troops in order to enhance security and protect civilians.
Governor Abubakar Abdalla Bashir also praised the strong partnership between AUSSOM forces and the local population in Lower Shabelle, noting that such cooperation is vital for sustaining peace and stability across the region.
The visit underscored the continued focus on strengthening coordination between local authorities and security partners as part of broader efforts to stabilize Lower Shabelle and counter the threat posed by Al-Shabaab.
