Mogadishu Mayor Inspects Banadir Education Directorate After Renovation

Hassan Mohamed Hussein Muungaab, the Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, on Sunday conducted a working visit to the headquarters of the Banadir Regional Education Directorate following the completion of extensive renovation work at the facility.

During the visit, Mayor Muungaab toured different departments of the education directorate and received detailed briefings from officials and staff members about their daily operations, ongoing programs, and the overall progress of education services provided to schools across the region.

The mayor commended the staff for their dedication and efforts in supporting the education sector despite the challenges faced by the region. He emphasized that the Banadir Regional Administration considers education one of its top priorities and remains committed to improving the quality and accessibility of schooling for children living in Mogadishu and surrounding districts.

Speaking during the visit, Muungaab highlighted the importance of ensuring that children from families who pay taxes in the region receive quality education without financial barriers. He stressed that providing free and accessible education is a key responsibility of the administration and an important step toward building a knowledgeable and productive society.

The mayor also revealed that he recently approved funding of nearly $300,000 dedicated to the development and improvement of schools in Banadir Region for the current academic year. According to him, the funds will be used to support infrastructure improvements, provide learning materials, and enhance the overall learning environment for students.

“We have signed funding close to three hundred thousand dollars to support the development of schools in Banadir Region each academic year. This support will continue to increase as we move forward with plans to construct larger and better-equipped schools in the near future,” the mayor said.

In addition to school development projects, Muungaab explained that the regional administration is working to remove bureaucratic challenges that previously affected students and families. He noted that the process of obtaining middle school certificates has recently been simplified after earlier complaints about delays and administrative obstacles.

The mayor urged officials in the education sector to ensure that all upcoming examinations are conducted in a fair, transparent, and professional manner. He emphasized that maintaining integrity in the education system is essential for building public trust and ensuring that students are evaluated based on merit.

Muungaab also called on parents and guardians to play an active role in supporting education by sending their children to school regularly. He said education remains the most effective tool in combating illiteracy and empowering the younger generation with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to national development.

The visit to the education directorate reflects the Banadir administration’s broader commitment to strengthening public services in Mogadishu, particularly in sectors such as education, which are considered vital for the long-term stability and progress of Somalia.
