Somalia’s security forces display explosives seized in Lambar 50, preventing an Al-Shabaab attack on Mogadishu.
Somalia’s Federal Government forces, together with security personnel from South West State, have today intercepted explosives that Al-Shabaab militants planned to smuggle into Mogadishu.
Commander of the 14th October Battalion, Colonel Abdirahim Mohamed Munye, told the media that intelligence received by the forces enabled them to seize the highly dangerous explosives in the Lambar 50 area.
“Thanks to Allah, we succeeded in preventing the militants from harming civilians. The forces captured 10 high-risk improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that Al-Shabaab intended to use against residents of Mogadishu,” Colonel Munye said.
The commander also expressed his gratitude to the local residents of Lambar 50 for sharing crucial information that helped authorities intercept the explosives before they reached the capital.
These seizures come amid heightened security measures in Mogadishu, as preparations continue for the upcoming direct, one-person-one-vote local council elections
