Somalia hosts the 35th EASF Defence Ministers’ meeting as Rwandan Defence minister arrives in Mogadishu
Somalia’s State Minister for Defence, Omar Ali Abdi, welcomes Rwanda’s Minister of Defence, Hon. Marizamunda Juvenal, at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu ahead of the 35th EASF Defence Ministers’ Meeting
The State Minister for Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hon. Omar Ali Abdi, today formally received the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Rwanda, Hon. Marizamunda Juvenal, upon his arrival at Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu.
The reception underscores the growing cooperative relations between Somalia and Rwanda, particularly in the areas of security, defence, and military collaboration. The Rwandan Defence Minister is in Mogadishu to participate in the 35th Meeting of Defence Ministers of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), which Somalia is hosting this year.
The high-level meeting will focus on key regional security issues, defence cooperation, and strengthening the operational capacity of the Eastern Africa Standby Force. EASF plays a vital role in peacekeeping, conflict prevention, and rapid response to emergencies across the Eastern Africa region.
As a full member of the EASF, Somalia is taking an active role in the deliberations, reaffirming its strong commitment to enhancing regional security cooperation. Hosting this important meeting further highlights Somalia’s growing diplomatic and security role in the Horn of Africa, reflecting the progress made in stabilisation, peacebuilding, and international engagement.
