Puntland, U.S. discuss counterterrorism and maritime security in Bosaso
Puntland Vice President Ilyas Osman Lugatoor met with a U.S. delegation led by AFRICOM Commander Gen. Dagvin R.M. Anderson in Bosaso to strengthen regional counterterrorism efforts and maritime security cooperation.
Puntland Vice President Ilyas Osman Lugatoor, currently on an official visit in Bosaso, on Thursday received a delegation from the United States led by U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander Gen. Dagvin R.M. Anderson. The delegation also included U.S. Deputy Ambassador to Somalia Justin Davis, diplomats, and other officials.
The meeting focused on regional counterterrorism cooperation, particularly the completion of operations targeting ISIS in Calmiskaad, and collaboration on maritime security. The U.S. delegation praised Puntland’s commitment and resilience in the fight against ISIS, while Puntland officials expressed appreciation for the continuous support and operational role of AFRICOM.
Attendees included Puntland Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Aden Abdi Hashi, Deputy Minister of the Presidency Abdulfatax Abdinur, PMPF Commander Gen. Abdirabi Abdismad, presidential advisors on politics and security Mohamed Abdirahman Dhabancad and Mohamed Warsame Seefta Banaanka, and other senior officials.
