AU representative and Africa CDC regional director discuss health security and peace building
AU Special Representative and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, met today in Mogadishu with Africa CDC Regional Director Dr. Mazyanga Lucy Mazaba to discuss enhancing health resilience and strengthening support for Somalia’s state-building and stabilization efforts.
The African Union Special Representative for Somalia and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador ElHadji Ibrahima Diene, on Monday held a high-level meeting in Mogadishu with the Africa CDC Eastern Africa Regional Director, Dr. Mazyanga Lucy Mazaba, to discuss strengthening health systems and resilience efforts in support of Somalia’s peace and stabilization agenda.
During the discussions, the two leaders explored ways to enhance collaboration between AUSSOM, Africa CDC, and the Federal Government of Somalia, particularly in areas related to public health security, disease prevention, and emergency response mechanisms. They emphasized that improving the country’s health sector is directly linked to advancing peacebuilding, state-building, and long-term stability.
Ambassador Diene reaffirmed AUSSOM’s commitment to supporting Somalia in building strong and sustainable national systems that can effectively respond to health emergencies and contribute to broader security and governance priorities.
Dr. Mazaba commended ongoing progress made by federal institutions and reiterated Africa CDC’s readiness to deepen technical cooperation, capacity building, and community-centered health programs across the country.
Both sides agreed to continue working closely with Somali authorities to strengthen a nationally led framework for health resilience, one that promotes stability, enhances service delivery, and supports the wellbeing of Somali communities as part of the wider peace and development process.
