Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a high-level bilateral meeting in Djibouti City with the President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, as part of intensified regional diplomatic engagements aimed at safeguarding Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The two leaders discussed close coordination and consultation on diplomatic efforts to counter recent developments viewed by Mogadishu as threats to Somalia’s national unity. The talks underscored the importance of a united position by brotherly and friendly countries in rejecting any attempts to divide Somalia or undermine its internationally recognized borders.
President Hassan Sheikh expressed his deep appreciation to the Government and people of Djibouti for their consistent and principled support for Somalia, praising Djibouti’s leadership role and brotherly stance in standing by Somalia during a sensitive and critical period. He highlighted Djibouti’s continued diplomatic backing as vital to protecting Somalia’s sovereignty and national cohesion.
Both presidents agreed to further strengthen diplomatic consultations and bilateral cooperation, emphasizing their shared responsibility in preserving regional stability and upholding the core principles that govern relations between sovereign states. The discussions also reaffirmed the strategic partnership between Somalia and Djibouti, particularly on peace, security, and political coordination in the Horn of Africa.
The Federal Republic of Somalia reiterated its firm and unwavering position on defending its territorial unity and national sovereignty, expressing confidence in the solidarity and collective support of regional countries in upholding these principles.
