The East African Community (EAC) has issued a strong statement reaffirming its unwavering support for the unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia. The regional bloc emphasized that Somalia’s internationally recognized borders must be respected and upheld under both regional and international law.

In the statement, the EAC called on all stakeholders and regional actors to respect Somalia’s independence and ensure adherence to laws and agreements that safeguard the territorial integrity of sovereign nations. The move comes amid growing diplomatic tensions following unilateral recognition claims over parts of northern Somalia.

“The EAC stands firmly with Somalia in maintaining its unity, sovereignty, and internationally recognized borders,” the statement read. “We urge all relevant parties to respect Somalia’s territorial integrity and comply with regional and international frameworks governing state sovereignty.”

The East African Community, which comprises Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan, highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and legal compliance to maintain peace and stability in the Horn of Africa.

This statement aligns with Somalia’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to reinforce its territorial integrity and counter any attempts to undermine its sovereignty. Analysts say EAC’s backing strengthens Somalia’s position on the international stage, especially amid concerns over unilateral actions that could destabilize the region.

Somalia’s government has repeatedly emphasized that any attempts to alter the status of its regions without consent are illegal and violate international law. The EAC statement further underscores the regional body’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, adherence to law, and collaborative solutions to disputes in the Horn of Africa.

The reaffirmation of support from EAC comes at a critical time as Somalia continues to engage with international partners and regional organizations to safeguard its unity, promote stability, and advance development across the country.
