The first phase of a three-month food distribution programme has been launched in the districts of Jalalaqsi and Balcad districts in the Hirshabelle State, targeting families affected by food insecurity.
According to officials, a total of 5,705 households across the two districts have benefited from the initial round of assistance, which aims to cushion vulnerable communities struggling with the effects of drought and economic hardship.
The initiative is jointly implemented by the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and the African Risk Capacity (ARC), as part of ongoing efforts to ensure timely and effective humanitarian aid reaches those most in need.
Officials from both agencies said the project demonstrates a coordinated national approach to emergency response, with a focus on resilience-building and sustainable recovery for affected families.
Future phases of the programme are expected to extend to additional districts, aligning with the government’s broader strategy to strengthen food security and mitigate the impact of climate-related shocks across Somalia.
