Somalia’s military says a new base for the elite Danab Special Forces in Dhusamareb is nearing completion as the government steps up operations against Al-Shabaab.
Army Commander Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud visited the facility during an inspection tour to assess construction progress and troop readiness.
Senior officers led by Mohamed Bashir Sheikh Aligood Barqadle briefed the army chief on the final stages of the project and ongoing military activities at the camp.
Speaking to troops, Ibrahim called on Danab forces to intensify operations against Al-Shabaab and praised their role in ongoing offensives across central and southern Somalia.
Military officials said the new base will improve the mobility, readiness and operational capacity of the Danab unit, which has become a key force in Somalia’s counterterrorism campaign.
The development comes as the federal government expands military infrastructure and prepares Somali forces to take over more security responsibilities from the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
