Minister Khadija thanks President Mohamud for signing the Independent National Human Rights Commission.
The Federal Government of Somalia has officially established the Independent National Human Rights Commission. Minister Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi thanked President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for finalizing the commission on International Human Rights Day, concluding a multi-year process led by the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development.
The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ambassador Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, has expressed her gratitude to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for formally signing the establishment of the Independent National Human Rights Commission.
Minister Khadija stated that the President's signature, coinciding with International Human Rights Day, reflects his strong commitment and dedication to protecting the rights of Somali citizens.
"I sincerely thank President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for putting his signature to finalize the establishment of the Independent National Human Rights Commission, which had already been approved by both chambers of Parliament and the Council of Ministers," said Minister Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi.
She added that this step concludes a long process that has been ongoing for several years to establish the Commission, a process that the Ministry has led to ensure Somalia has an independent body dedicated to safeguarding human rights.
Over the past years, the Ministry of Family and Human Rights Development has been actively implementing the resolutions from the National Human Rights Conference. The President's signature completes the constitutional requirement for establishing independent national commissions, marking a key milestone for human rights in Somalia.
