Somali National Army Eliminates Key Al-Shabaab Leaders in Successful Operation in Baay Region
The Somali National Army (SNA), particularly the 47th Battalion under the 8th Brigade of the 60th Division, has conducted a major security operation in Deynuunaay and surrounding villages in Baay region, resulting in the killing of senior Al-Shabaab leaders.
According to military officials, the operation targeted Al-Shabaab hideouts in several locations, including Buul Doorro, Kor Ing Roogi, Dhambalka, and Buur Rooring, all situated in areas under Deynuunaay. During the operation, the militants’ finance chief in Baay region, identified as Abuu Khaalid (Yaxye), was killed along with his deputy and several of their bodyguards.
Commander of the 8th Brigade, Col. Ali Mohamed Aden (Ali Aadow), confirmed to state media that the operation was carefully planned and executed as part of ongoing efforts to weaken the terrorist network’s financial and operational capabilities in the region.
He added that such operations are part of a wider national campaign by the Federal Government of Somalia aimed at completely eradicating Al-Shabaab from the country, ensuring peace and stability for local communities in Baay and beyond.
Security officials reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining military pressure on the group until all remaining hideouts are cleared and normal governance is restored across liberated areas.
