SoDMA commissioner meets IRC Somalia to strengthen disaster response cooperation

The Commissioner of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, today held a meeting at the SoDMA headquarters in Mogadishu with a delegation from the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Somalia.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in disaster response efforts, with particular emphasis on enhancing disaster preparedness and building resilient communities capable of withstanding the impacts of natural and humanitarian crises.

Both sides discussed ways to improve coordination in humanitarian assistance delivery and to jointly implement sustainable programs aimed at strengthening the capacity of Somali communities. The discussions highlighted the importance of early preparedness, effective response mechanisms, and long-term resilience-building initiatives to reduce the impact of disasters.

Commissioner Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle reaffirmed SoDMA’s commitment to working closely with international partners, including IRC, to enhance national disaster management systems and ensure timely, coordinated, and effective humanitarian responses.

The IRC Somalia delegation expressed its continued support for Somalia’s disaster management efforts and emphasized the organization’s commitment to collaborating with SoDMA on programs that promote resilience, preparedness, and sustainable recovery for vulnerable communities.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to strengthening disaster risk management and improving humanitarian outcomes across Somalia.
