The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ayuub Ismaaciil Yuusuf, on Tuesday held talks with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Somalia, Ahmed bin Mohammed Saleh Al-Muwalad, at his office in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Somalia and Saudi Arabia, with particular emphasis on reconstruction, infrastructure development and housing projects aimed at supporting Somalia’s long-term recovery and development goals. Both sides discussed ways to enhance collaboration in rebuilding critical public infrastructure damaged by decades of conflict and underinvestment.
The discussions also covered future partnership opportunities, development assistance and the role Saudi Arabia can play in supporting Somalia’s reconstruction efforts, taking into account the longstanding historical ties and brotherly relations between the two countries. The minister highlighted the importance of international partnerships in accelerating Somalia’s infrastructure development and improving service delivery to the public.
Minister Ayuub expressed his appreciation for the continued support provided by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Somalia, noting that Saudi-backed initiatives have contributed significantly to humanitarian relief, development projects and institutional rebuilding. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for effective cooperation and sustainable development.
For his part, Ambassador Al-Muwalad reiterated Saudi Arabia’s firm commitment to supporting Somalia’s reconstruction and development agenda. He emphasized his country’s readiness to further strengthen cooperation with the Ministry of Public Works and other Somali institutions in areas that promote economic growth, stability and improved living conditions for the Somali people.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close coordination and explore practical mechanisms to translate discussions into tangible reconstruction and development projects across Somalia.
