Somali Army, Danab Commandos Conduct Security Operations in Villages Near Jabad Godane After Heavy Fighting

The Somali National Army (SNA), particularly the elite Danab Commandos, on Tuesday carried out security and stabilization operations in villages surrounding the Jabad Godane area, where heavy fighting took place a day earlier between government forces and Al-Shabaab militants.

The operations are focused on locations suspected to have been used by Al-Shabaab fighters who launched the attack near Jabad Godane in the Middle Shabelle region. Military sources said the aim is to flush out remaining militants, secure the area, and prevent any attempt by the group to regroup.

Following Monday’s clashes, the Federal Government of Somalia claimed significant victories, displaying the bodies of several Al-Shabaab fighters killed during the fighting. Officials said those killed included both senior figures and rank-and-file militants.

Despite the images released, the federal government has not provided an official figure for the total number of Al-Shabaab fighters killed in the battle, which was described as one of the heaviest confrontations witnessed in Middle Shabelle in recent times.

The fighting in Jabad Godane comes amid intensified military operations by the Somali National Army over the past several days. These operations have involved both air and ground offensives targeting Al-Shabaab positions in areas under Warsheekh District in the Middle Shabelle region.

Security officials say the ongoing campaigns are part of broader efforts to weaken Al-Shabaab’s presence, restore stability, and ensure the safety of civilians in the region.
