In Summary

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud meets regional leaders to strengthen a united front on protecting national sovereignty and unity.

Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has held a high-level meeting with several Federal Member State presidents and the Governor of Banadir Region to discuss the protection of the country’s sovereignty and territorial unity, amid rising diplomatic tensions.

The meeting focused on the federal government’s strategy to counter what officials described as an infringement against Somalia’s statehood and its people by the Prime Minister of Israel. President Hassan Sheikh emphasized that the government, in cooperation with the Somali people, is undertaking intensive efforts to safeguard national unity and sovereignty through established international laws and diplomatic channels.

He stressed the importance of a unified national stance in confronting any actions that threaten Somalia’s existence, warning against divisive agendas that could undermine the country’s territorial integrity and political stability.

Presidents of the South West, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and North East states, along with the Governor of Banadir Region, who attended the meeting, unanimously reaffirmed that Somaliland remains an integral part of the territory and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia. They cautioned that any move challenging Somalia’s unity could have serious and far-reaching security consequences for the wider region.

The regional leaders also voiced strong support for President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s diplomatic efforts at both the domestic and international levels, underscoring the need for coordinated action to defend Somalia’s sovereignty and uphold regional stability.

The meeting comes as Somalia intensifies diplomatic engagement with regional and international partners, seeking broad support to preserve its unity and prevent actions that could destabilize the Horn of Africa.
