Somali National Army Intensifies Third Day of Operations Against Al-Shabaab Between Waajid and Hudur
Somali National Army forces are conducting a third consecutive day of operations between Waajid and Hudur, killing several Al-Shabaab militants, including a key operative involved in child recruitment.
The Somali National Army (SNA) has entered its third consecutive day of coordinated military operations targeting Al-Shabaab strongholds in areas located between the districts of Waajid and Hudur in the Bakool region.
The ongoing operations are aimed at clearing Al-Shabaab elements from the strategic corridor linking Waajid and Hudur, a route considered vital for civilian movement, humanitarian access, and military logistics. Securing the road has long been a priority for the government due to repeated insurgent activity in the area.
According to military officials, the operations have specifically targeted militant positions situated between the two districts. Preliminary reports indicate that several Al-Shabaab fighters have been killed, including a key operative identified as Cabdi Boorow, who was responsible for child recruitment and mobilizing new fighters into the group.
Security sources say the operations are progressing successfully, with troops dismantling Al-Shabaab hideouts and disrupting their ability to launch attacks along the corridor. The area between Waajid and Xudur remains one of the group’s long-standing zones of influence, making the ongoing operation a critical step toward stabilizing the wider Bakool region.
Military commanders indicated that the offensive will continue until the route is fully secured and cleared of all threats posed by Al-Shabaab.
