UN agencies and Jubbaland agree to scale up technical support and stability programs
Jubbaland’s Minister of Security, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Hussein Osman (Dhumaal), held important talks with the UNDSS head for Jubbaland to expand cooperation, improve technical support, and accelerate joint security efforts across the region.
The Minister of Internal Security of the Jubbaland State Government, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Hussein Osman (Dhumaal), hosted a high-level meeting in his office today with the Head of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) for Jubbaland, Ms. Berina Kovacevic.
The meeting, described as both important and strategic, focused on the overall security situation in Jubbaland, the enhancement of cooperation between the Ministry of Security and UN agencies, and ways to expand technical assistance and training aimed at improving regional stability.
A representative from the United Nations Police (UNPOL) also participated in the discussions and presented an update on ongoing support programs, security plans under implementation, and capacity-building initiatives meant to strengthen the effectiveness of Jubbaland’s security institutions.
Minister Lt. Gen. Yusuf Hussein Osman (Dhumaal) expressed his appreciation for the continuous support the United Nations provides to the Jubbaland administration. He underscored the significance of sustained collaboration, emphasizing that joint security efforts and consistent international engagement are vital to achieving long-term stability and institutional resilience in the region.
For her part, Ms. Berina Kovacevic reaffirmed UNDSS’s commitment to maintaining strong support for Jubbaland’s security sector. She highlighted planned initiatives targeting stabilization, preparedness, and efforts to counter security threats, noting that UNDSS remains a dependable partner in strengthening the readiness and operational capacity of government agencies.
The meeting concluded with a mutual understanding to accelerate joint security activities, reinforce technical cooperation, and further strengthen the working relationship between the Jubbaland authorities and United Nations security institutions.
