Speaker Madobe chairs standing committee, highlights legislative work and EAC role
Speaker Sheikh Adan Madobe chairs 9th Standing Committee meeting at Villa Hargeysa, commends committees’ legislative work, briefs on EAC parliamentary forum in Uganda, and calls for accelerated law-making ahead of next week’s sessions
The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe), on Thursday presided over the 9th meeting of the Standing Committee held at Villa Hargeysa.
Opening the session, the Speaker praised the various parliamentary committees for their continued efforts in drafting key legislation and conducting oversight meetings with ministries and government agencies.
Speaker Madobe also briefed the Standing Committee on the recent meeting of the Speakers of Parliaments of the East African Community (EAC) held in Kampala, Uganda, where he was elected Chairperson of the EAC Parliamentary Speakers Forum. The meeting further resolved that Somalia will host the mid-2026 annual conference.
During the session, members of the Standing Committee received updates from each committee on the bills currently under review, followed by the formulation of a clear agenda and timetable for next week’s parliamentary sittings.
In his closing remarks, Speaker Madobe urged the committees to accelerate the law-making process to ensure that the responsibilities of the House of the People are fully and effectively met.
