President Mohamud Commends Clerics for Promoting Peace and National Unity
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday welcomed distinguished Somali scholar Sheikh Abdirashid Sheikh Ali Suufi to the Presidential Palace for a high-level discussion focused on reinforcing national unity, promoting community awareness, and advancing peace and stability across the country.
In a statement issued by Villa Somalia, the Presidency confirmed that the meeting served as an important forum for exchanging views on Somalia’s current social and political landscape. The President and the Sheikh reviewed ongoing government efforts to strengthen state institutions, deepen public understanding of national priorities, and safeguard the moral values that underpin Somali society.
President Hassan Sheikh emphasized the pivotal role of Somalia’s religious leaders, noting that clerics remain at the forefront of guiding communities, countering extremist ideologies, and nurturing a culture of peace.
He commended their long-standing commitment to public education and their influence in maintaining social cohesion.
“Sheikh Abdirashid and many of our scholars are vital partners in the nation’s stability,” the President noted, highlighting the government’s continued collaboration with religious institutions as part of its broader reform agenda.
For his part, Sheikh Abdirashid Sheikh Ali Suufi expressed appreciation for the President’s warm reception and praised the administration’s dedication to fostering unity and good governance. He offered prayers for Somalia’s peace, progress, and resilience, reaffirming the readiness of religious leaders to support national development efforts.
