Puntland Cabinet Approves Amendments to Local Government Law
The Vice President of Puntland and Acting President, Liyas Osman Lugatoor, on Thursday presided over the weekly Cabinet meeting, where key national issues including security, drought response, and local governance reforms were discussed.
During the meeting, ministers extensively reviewed the overall security situation in the region, strategies to mitigate the ongoing drought, and proposed amendments to the law governing regions, districts, and the establishment of local administrations.
The Cabinet unanimously approved the proposed amendments to the Regions, Districts, and Local Government Establishment Law, which were submitted by the Ministry of Interior, Federalism, and Democratization of Puntland. The changes are expected to strengthen governance structures at the regional and district levels, improve service delivery, and enhance local administrative efficiency.
Vice President Liyas Osman Lugatoor emphasized the importance of cohesive planning and effective governance, highlighting the Cabinet’s commitment to addressing pressing issues such as security challenges and humanitarian needs across Puntland.
The approved amendments mark a significant step toward reinforcing decentralized governance and ensuring that Puntland’s local administrations are better equipped to meet the needs of their communities.
