Somalia and Turkey pledge to deepen trade and industrial cooperation
The Minister of Commerce and Industry of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mahamud Ahmed Aden (Geesood), held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, at his office in Mogadishu.
The high-level discussions focused on strengthening bilateral trade relations, promoting investment opportunities, and expanding industrial cooperation between Somalia and Türkiye. Both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing economic ties as part of broader efforts to accelerate Somalia’s economic recovery and development.
Minister Geesood underscored the significance of practical and mutually beneficial economic cooperation, noting that Türkiye has been a strategic partner in supporting Somalia’s development through trade, infrastructure, and capacity-building projects.
He highlighted the need for increased private-sector engagement and the creation of sustainable investment frameworks to stimulate local industries and job creation.
Ambassador Aktaş reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s economic growth, expressing his government’s readiness to facilitate Turkish investors interested in Somalia’s industrial, construction, and service sectors. He praised Somalia’s progress in improving its business environment and emphasized the value of continued collaboration through bilateral agreements and trade initiatives.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to strengthen ongoing cooperation and explore new mechanisms for trade facilitation, investment promotion, and industrial partnership. The two sides also expressed confidence that enhanced economic collaboration would contribute to long-term stability, prosperity, and mutual growth between Somalia and Türkiye.
