Speaker Madobe chairs extraordinary standing committee session, swears in new Labour minister
The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor (Madobe), chaired an extraordinary session of the Standing Committee held at Villa Hargeisa, the official headquarters of the Parliament’s leadership and committees.
The meeting was attended by First Deputy Speaker Sacdiya Yasin Haji Samatar, Second Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Omar Abshirow, and several senior members of the Standing Committee.
The agenda focused on evaluating the progress of parliamentary work and preparing for the upcoming seventh session of the House of the People.
In his address to the committee, Speaker Madobe outlined the wide range of legislative responsibilities awaiting Parliament, emphasizing the importance of strengthening coordination among members to accelerate the review and passage of key national laws.
He urged the committee to ensure that the next session is productive and centered on legislation that supports good governance, national development, and institutional reform.
The Speaker also highlighted the need for enhanced collaboration between the House and government ministries to ensure that national priorities, such as economic growth, public service delivery, and transparency, are effectively addressed through legislation and oversight.
At the conclusion of the session, the Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of the People, MP Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan (Nuux), officially administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Prof. Saalim Caliyow Ibrow.
The swearing-in followed his appointment by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre through a decree issued earlier this week.
The Standing Committee reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the legislative agenda of the Federal Parliament and working closely with the executive branch to strengthen the country’s governance framework and promote stability and progress across Somalia.
