Somali Ports minister visits historic school offering free education to underprivileged Cchildren
Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Marine Transport, Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur, on Sunday visited a historic school in Waajid, Bakool region, which provides free quality education to children from disadvantaged families.
The school, founded in 1945, is one of the oldest institutions in the region and has produced notable scholars and public figures who have made significant contributions to the country’s social and public service sectors.
During the inspection tour, the Minister interacted with students, teachers, and administrators, assessing the learning environment and listening to the challenges facing both staff and pupils.
Minister Nur also announced that he would cover the salaries of 20 teachers working at the school, a gesture aimed at ensuring the sustainability of the free education program and supporting teachers’ welfare.
Education officials and local leaders commended the Minister’s initiative, noting that it demonstrates the government’s renewed commitment to improving access to education for vulnerable children and strengthening the public education system across Somalia.
