Somalia’s Prime Minister meets EU Special Envoy in Egypt to strengthen bilateral cooperation

The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, currently on an official visit to Egypt, met with Dr. Annette Weber, the European Union’s Special Representative for the Horn of Africa.
The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation, security support, and progress made in political, economic, and security sectors.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre highlighted the significant achievements of the DanQaran administration over the past three years including maintaining security in the capital city, combating extremist groups, rebuilding the national army, and advancing economic development, political stability, and improvements in public services.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts related to the transition period of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and the critical role of continued international support.
Dr. Annette Weber commended the Somali government for its tangible progress and reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to further strengthen its support to Somalia in its journey toward lasting peace and development.
