Somalia, Rwanda sign pact to strengthen bilateral cooperation
Somalia and Rwanda have entered into a new cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
The deal was signed in Kigali by Somalia’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Abdisalam Omer Ali, together with Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community, Ambassador Ilyas Ali Hassan, who also serves as a non-resident envoy to Rwanda. Rwanda was represented by its Foreign Minister Ambassador Olivier Jean Patrick Nduhungirehe.
The agreement seeks to expand collaboration in key areas including diplomacy, trade, investment, and institutional capacity building.
Officials said the move reflects both countries’ commitment to deepening their partnership and advancing shared goals of peace, stability, and regional development.
The ministers also discussed ways to enhance economic and cultural cooperation and to strengthen joint efforts promoting prosperity and regional integration.
In a joint statement, the two sides described the signing as a “historic milestone” in cementing long-term relations based on mutual respect and shared interests.
The pact comes as Somalia continues to expand its diplomatic outreach across Africa, reinforcing cooperation with countries that share its vision for stability and economic growth.
