Somalia Hssan Sheikh Mohammud President Consults Regional Leaders Over Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, conducted urgent diplomatic phone consultations with regional leaders, including President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti and Chairperson of IGAD, President William Ruto of Kenya and Chairperson of the East African Community (EAC), President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda.
The discussions focused on Israel’s illegal actions undermining Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which pose risks to regional stability and security and contravene international law.
The regional leaders collectively reaffirmed their full support for Somalia’s independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty, emphasizing that any recognition of land belonging to a UN member state constitutes a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, the African Union principles on territorial integrity, and international norms governing inter-state relations.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud continues to hold consultations with global leaders to coordinate necessary legal, diplomatic, and political measures to defend Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial unity, and national integrity.
