AU and AUSSOM reaffirm commitment to peaceful, people-centred governance in the Horn of Africa.
AU Special Envoy Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene stressed the importance of inclusive governance and early warning systems to safeguard stability in the Horn of Africa, ahead of the 2026 elections in Somalia, Ethiopia, and South Sudan.
The African Union Special Representative and Head of AUSSOM, Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene “Boly,” participated in a high-level meeting in Nairobi organized by Finn Church Aid and the International IDEA Africa, particularly through the Africa and East Asia (AWA) Program. The meeting focused on inclusive governance, regional stability, and early warning mechanisms to prevent emerging crises.
During his opening remarks, Ambassador Diene emphasized the urgent need for inclusive political dialogue, strengthened institutions, and early warning systems to maintain stability in the Horn of Africa. He highlighted the current political landscapes in Somalia, Ethiopia, and South Sudan ahead of their 2026 elections.
Ambassador Diene reaffirmed the African Union’s and AUSSOM’s commitment to supporting people-centered, peaceful governance and working closely with regional and international partners to promote resilience and prevent crises.
