Somali Agriculture Ministry pledges action to improve irrigation and boost crop production in Afgooye.

The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Abdi Khayir (Maareeye), visited several farms in Afgooye district, where communities are facing critical water shortages.

During the visit, the Minister met with local farmers to hear firsthand the challenges affecting irrigation and the impact of water scarcity on crop production. Farmers shared concerns over limited water access and poorly maintained irrigation channels, which have directly affected their agricultural output.

Minister Mohamed Abdi Khayir assured the farming communities that the Ministry will take practical measures to address water shortages, improve irrigation systems, and enhance agricultural productivity. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring sustainable water management in the region.

The visit reflects ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen agricultural development, improve food security, and support farmers in areas heavily affected by drought and water management challenges.
