Somalia’s Prime Minister inaugurates Prof. Shariif Salah Theatre at Somali National University

The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, attended the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed Prof. Shariif Saalah Maxamed Ali Theatre at Somali National University (SNU) this evening.
Addressing attendees, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the new theater as a milestone in promoting education, culture, arts, and research in Somalia. He highlighted that the facility would serve as a hub for creativity and intellectual development, while reinforcing the university’s role in fostering knowledge and community awareness.
“Somali National University is a leader in higher education in our country. I hope it continues to set the standard for academic excellence, and we will work together to further enhance its contributions,” said Prime Minister Hamza.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister also shared with the public that the next year, 2026, will mark the beginning of oil exploration and extraction in Somalia, a development expected to significantly improve the livelihoods of Somali citizens.
The new theater was named in honor of Prof. Shariif Saalah Mohamed Ali, a former university president and a member of the committee that helped develop the Somali script. The inauguration was attended by Cabinet members, university officials, scholars, students, and invited guests, highlighting the shared commitment to advancing education and cultural initiatives in Somalia.
