Somalia’s Minister of Information Inaugurates Radio Mogadishu Studio Modernization Project
Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Da’uud Aweys Jaamac, today officially inaugurated the modernization project of Radio Mogadishu studios, the voice of the Federal Republic of Somalia, marking a significant step in enhancing the capabilities and quality of the national broadcaster.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the Radio Mogadishu headquarters, attended by the Ministry’s Director General, Abdullaahi Hayir Duaale, the Director of Radio Mogadishu, officials from the Ministry, and station staff.
The year-long modernization project has equipped Radio Mogadishu with state-of-the-art broadcasting equipment, improving the quality, clarity, and efficiency of its programming. The station now operates two fully functional studios capable of simultaneous broadcasts, allowing continuous programming even during technical or urgent operations.
In a brief address, Radio Mogadishu Director, Abdifataax Daahir Jayte, thanked Minister Jaamac and the Ministry’s leadership for their continued support, highlighting that part of the new equipment was facilitated through collaboration with BBC Media Action, which contributed to enhancing the station’s technical capacity.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 7th studio, Minister Da’uud Aweys Jaamac praised the dedication of Radio Mogadishu staff and emphasized that the project is part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen the national media. He stressed that a modernized national broadcaster plays a key role in raising public awareness, delivering accurate information, and promoting national unity and governance.
The Minister further noted that the government remains committed to ongoing investment in and modernization of national media to keep pace with technological developments worldwide and ensure Radio Mogadishu remains a reliable and trusted source of information.
The studio modernization project is seen as a major boost to Radio Mogadishu’s role in news dissemination, public service broadcasting, and civic engagement, reinforcing its position as Somalia’s oldest and most influential media institution.
