Somalia’s Finance Minister Bihi Imaan Egeh participated in a two-day international conference in Nairobi, organized by the Somali Development and Reconstruction Bank. The event focused on accelerating economic growth, strengthening collaboration with international financial institutions, and leveraging past reforms to promote sustainable development. Minister Bihi also highlighted the transparent formation of the Higher Committee of the Development Bank and thanked global partners for their ongoing support in Somalia’s recovery.
Somalia’s Minister of Finance, Bihi Imaan Egeh, participated in a two-day international conference in Nairobi focused on economic development and strengthening cooperation between the Federal Government of Somalia and international financial institutions. The event was organized by the Somali Development and Reconstruction Bank.
The conference brought together governments, international agencies, and financial institutions supporting Somalia, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Union, and several embassies. Delegates discussed strategies to accelerate economic growth and enhance collaboration between the Somali government and global financial partners, aiming for sustainable development that supports public services and national reconstruction.
During the conference, Minister Egeh, along with the chairs of the Development Bank and Somalia’s Central Bank, highlighted the country’s progress in economic reforms. They noted that Somalia has overcome several key challenges in financial restructuring and is now entering a phase where past efforts can be leveraged for greater development impact.
The Minister also emphasized the recent establishment of the Higher Committee of the Development Bank, which he described as a transparent, fair, and merit-based selection process designed to ensure capable leadership.
Concluding his remarks, Minister Biixi expressed gratitude to international partners for their continued support, stressing that their role remains vital in ensuring Somalia’s stability and ongoing economic progress.
