Somalia’s minister of Ports hands over official IMSO accession documents at IMO Meeting in London
Somalia officially joined the International Maritime Satellite Organization (IMSO), marking a key step in enhancing maritime security, modernizing port management, and strengthening international cooperation. Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur handed over Somalia’s accession documents during the 34th IMO Council meeting in London.
Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, attending the 34th session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council in London, held a meeting with IMO Secretary-General, Mr. Arsenio Dominguez.
During the meeting, Minister Nur formally handed over Somalia’s official accession documents for the International Maritime Satellite Organization (IMSO) agreement — a move aimed at strengthening maritime security, enhancing maritime communications, and boosting international cooperation in Somalia’s territorial waters.
The meeting was attended by the General Manager of Mogadishu Port, Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur (U.S.), and Somalia’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Abdulqadir Abdi Xaashi. Officials discussed how the new IMSO partnership will support Somalia’s efforts to modernize maritime institutions, improve maritime law enforcement, and enhance coastal protection.
This step is part of the Federal Government of Somalia’s broader efforts to develop modern maritime capabilities and strengthen the country’s role in international maritime security.
